Dear Campers and Staff,

We are taking this opportunity to clarify the dress code at Camp Epachiseca so you will be able to make appropriate choices when shopping for cam clothes. With fashion styles changing so rapidly each year, one thing we stress in our dress code is modesty. The purpose of camp is all centered around our relationship with Christ, so we want to create an atmosphere free of distractions in order to accomplish our purpose. Please select clothing, (shirts, shorts, pants, etc.) which reflect a modest style. Please note the following examples:

  • There will be no underwear of any sort (including bra straps and boxers) visible at any time
  • Campers shall not be permitted to wear short shorts or crop tops. Bare midriffs or spaghetti strap tops will not be permitted. Girls tank tops must have a 2” strap. Shorts should be at least mid-thigh, with at least a 5” inseam. Spandex will not be permissible.
  • All make-up for girls must be kept tasteful, and no theatrical make-up will be permitted. This includes black lipstick, glitter make-up, white face paint, etc. There will be no coloring of hair while at the camp as well.
  • No body piercings are permitted, except for in the ears. Guys will be allowed to wear earrings. No hanging chains from pockets.
  • No oversized clothing will be permitted as it interferes with movements and safety.
  • No skintight clothing (includes tops, dresses, shorts, etc.)
  • Clothing containing inappropriate and descriptive words and/or images will not be allowed .
  • There will be no two-piece bathing suits—PERIOD. Neither will there be any immodest one piece suits either.

If there are any questions about what to wear while you are at camp, please ask the dorm mom or dad. Any camper found to be in violation of the dress code will be asked to leave after one warning.

Thank you.

The Camp Directors

Please Do NOT Bring

Certain items, if brought by the campers, will be taken by the Dean and kept for the duration of the week. Please leave the following items at home: walkie talkies, cell phones, radios, televisions, games, pets, tape or CD players, pocket knives, guns, fishing gear, archery equipment, and non-Biblical books.

Camp Rules prohibit food in the dorms. This is necessary for the health and safety of the young people as food attracts animals, insects, and may promote
bacteria and disease. Please do not allow your young people to hide or store any food, candy or other edible items in their luggage! It will be confiscated.

Camp Rules prohibit the use of any form of alcohol, tobacco, and/or illegal drugs. Drugs which are dispensed under the care of a physician will be handled according to the paragraph entitled "Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drugs". The Camp Dean reserves the right to send home any camper who attempts to conceal the use of any of these items. Campers will not need matches or lighters during the camp week.

NOTES ON CAMPER CLOTHING

The watchword for camper dress is MODESTY. The Dean of each camp week reserves the right to make appropriate judgments on camper clothing. Please label all clothing with the camper's name and other identification so that lost items may be found.

The following suggestions may aid in selecting camper clothing: Dress clothing appropriate for school is requested for the evening supper and vesper hours. Casual wear is appropriate for other meals and for class sessions. Gym clothing will be permitted for the recreation times.

Swimsuits should be one-piece and will only be worn for swimming. No swimming is permitted in Fishing Creek; campers are bussed to a public swimming facility. A jacket for cool evenings is needed and some sort of rain protection is suggested.

No short shorts, bare midriffs, or half T-shirts for men or women are permitted.

DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION GUIDELINE

The camp weeks and programs are designed to create an environment in which a camper can grow in his or her relationship with Jesus Christ. Positive relationships between youth that develop at camp are encouraged and can be a good thing. However, relationships that develop between couples at camp can negatively affect a camper if not handled constructively. Therefore, physical displays of affection between campers and unmarried staff will not be permitted. The guidelines for the physical display of affection is that all couples must maintain a healthy space of at least a few inches between them at all times. This will be enforced by the Dean of the week with the help of the general dean and directors

BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS

The Camp Dean of each program or week communicates his or her rules, guidelines, and expectations at the beginning of the week. It is vitally important that all campers and staff follow these rules. During the week the Deans have the authority given them by the camp assembly to enforce these rules. Campers should not attend camp if they cannot live by these basic rules of behavior. If a workable resolution to a problem cannot be agreed upon or a major infraction occurs a camper may be sent home.

CAMPER CHECK OUT PROCEDURE

At the end of the week or program campers will be released only to the person designated by a parent or guardian at the beginning of the camp week. If this person then cannot pick up his or her child, he or she must call the camp before the camp closes and give a verbal release to the Camp Dean. Campers will be released from the dining hall only to the preauthorized parent or according to the preauthorized arrangement. Please make sure that your child is picked up promptly at the close of the week or program. After checking out your child, you will go with them to a designated area to check and pick up their luggage and belongings.

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

Camp policy states that Senior High Week is for young people going into grades 10-12. Young people who graduated in the current year are permitted to attend Senior High Week as a camper.

UNDER 18 STAFF APPLICATION

Young people who are under 18 years of age and want to be considered to work a week of camp must: 1) Fill out a staff application; 2) Have your minister or elder complete the reference section and send it to the General Dean; 3) Be approved by the General Dean; and 4) Be selected by a Camp Dean.

*If you need a staff application form, please contact Mike Lyons at the camp at 570-925-2783. Leave a message if no one answers. Mike will get back to you.

VISITATION POLICY

In the past, visitors, whether parents or friends, have been allowed to come and go at any time during the day or evening. Experience has taught us that this can be very disruptive to the camp program, and at times, causes the campers to become upset or homesick. For this reason, the camp has developed the following visitation policy.

Parents and/or guardians may visit at any time they require. Parents are encouraged to restrict their visits to Thursday evenings, the night available for area visitors wishing to view the camp program. First Chance Campers are not allowed

visits from friends, nor are staff members under 18. Campers for Junior, Middle, Junior High, and Senior High Weeks will be permitted to have visits from friends on Thursday evenings only. All visitors to the camp are required to follow camp rules and are not permitted to interfere with the camp program.

Visitors must register their presence with the Dean and adhere to the Dean’s rules and schedule. No overnight visitors will be permitted unless approved by the Dean. Visitors are asked to depart prior to the campfire. Meals may be arranged through the Head Cook for an established fee.

RISK OF INJURY WAIVER OF LIABILITY

Parental or Guardian signature(s) on the Camp Registration Form indicate that they have read and agree with the following items:

I hereby give permission for my child to participate in all recreational, swimming and learning activities featured during the camp week and for my child to be bound by all current camp policies.

I desire that my child participate in the full range of camp activities and acknowledge that the natural conditions of the camp, and interaction with other children of similar ages, may subject my child to a risk of injury.

I release the camp from any responsibility other than normal supervision and care. In case of accident, I will not hold the Eastern Pennsylvania Christian Service Camp, its staff, management, faculty, volunteers or its officers liable. Further, I waive any claim or cause of action against the foregoing parties which may arise as a result of an accident or an injury to my child.

In case of emergency, I hereby give permission to the physician selected by the camp management or Dean to secure proper treatment for my child. Doctors’ services, treatments or hospitalizations are to be charged first to the camp accident insurance and then to our family insurance or to me personally.

I understand that the Eastern Pennsylvania Christian Service Camp and its staff shall not be held responsible for any articles lost, stolen or left at the camp.

If appropriate, both parents and/or legal guardians must sign the registration card.

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP

For Personal Use

Each camper should bring his or her own soap, towels, toiletries, clothes, spending money (for missions and items offered by music or mission groups participating in the program), and bedding. The camp features a boys’ and girls’ dorm with bunk beds and showers. We would highly recommend that all campers bring a pair of flip flops or beach shoes for use while taking a shower. Campers are encouraged to bring their own musical instruments, basketball, softball, gloves, bats and other recreational equipment not prohibited elsewhere in this brochure. It is strongly suggested that all belongings be premarked at home by the campers to help avoid lost items.

The campers will be encouraged to respect the private property of others as well as the facilities of the camp. It may be necessary to ask the parents of delinquent campers to pay for damage done intentionally by their children.

A Camp Store is available for camper use at scheduled times throughout the week. The camp fees for First Chance Camp and the full weeks of camp cover the campers store items. Campers will be allowed one drink and one snack item at each store time during the week. T-shirts, sweat shirts, and tapes may be available for purchase at some weeks of camp from music groups or missions participating in the program.

For Classes and Vespers

EPACHISECA is a Christian Service Camp. The emphasis throughout the week will be on Bible Study, prayer and the preaching of the Word of God. Students should come prepared to learn. To aid in the process of learning and retention, campers are encouraged to bring a Bible, paper for note-taking, a pen and/or pencil and a teachable spirit.

In addition, each camp week will be receiving a mission offering. The offering will be directed towards some mission project which has been selected by the Dean of the week. Campers should be encouraged to arrive with the desire and means to participate in this offering.

Finally, since the Camp is a Christian Service Camp, the young people will be encouraged to make a commitment of faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. This commitment may include a statement of faith and baptism by immersion in water. The Dean will contact the parents before baptizing campers. Campers may also be challenged to commit to some form of specialized Christian service as a life vocation.
